The Colorado Rockies could soon welcome another member of the Holliday family. With the 2025 MLB Draft set for July 13 during All-Star Week in Atlanta, many eyes are on Ethan Holliday, a top high school player from Oklahoma. If picked by the Rockies at No. 4, it would continue a special family connection that began with his father, Matt Holliday, back in 1998.

Top prospect Ethan Holliday set to make Rockies history like dad Matt Holliday

In the latest MLB.com mock draft released on Thursday, June 6, 2025, Ethan Holliday is projected to be picked No. 4 overall by the Colorado Rockies. Ethan plays infield at Stillwater High School in Oklahoma and is currently ranked as the top prospect in the 2025 class.
Ethan’s father, Matt Holliday, was drafted by the Rockies in the seventh round of the 1998 MLB Draft. Matt played his first five MLB seasons with Colorado and was a three-time All-Star while with the team. Ethan’s older brother, Jackson Holliday, was also a high draft pick, going No. 1 overall to the Baltimore Orioles in 2022.If the Rockies go forward with this pick, the Holliday legacy in Colorado baseball would grow even stronger. Fans have been buzzing about the idea since Bleacher Report also predicted Ethan to the Rockies back in April 2025.

Why Ethan Holliday might fall to Rockies at No. 4 despite being No. 1 prospect

In earlier predictions, Ethan Holliday was expected to go first to the Washington Nationals, but the latest changes show Louisiana State University pitcher Kade Anderson moving to the top. On Thursday, June 6, MLB.com wrote that Anderson’s strong NCAA showing helped his stock rise quickly. He threw seven shutout innings with 11 strikeouts during Regional play, catching scouts’ attention. The next expected picks are Liam Doyle to the Los Angeles Angels at No. 2 and Aiva Arquette, a shortstop from Oregon State, to the Seattle Mariners at No. 3.Even with these changes, MLB.com noted, “This has been the perceived floor for Holliday,” meaning No. 4 might be the lowest spot he falls. If Ethan joins the Rockies, he could be part of the team’s rebuild, as they currently hold the worst record in the league (12-50) as of Friday, June 6, 2025.
