After making waves with his first red carpet appearance in Manish Malhotra couture, Karan Johar returned to the 78th Cannes Film Festival in a look that celebrated legacy and paid homage to the late, legendary Indian designer Rohit Bal. Appearing for the screening of Homebound, Johar made his second outing count with an ensemble rich in symbolism and craftsmanship.
At the heart of Karan’s all-black ensemble was a luxurious silk velvet jacket from Rohit Bal’s archive. This striking piece, covered in delicate zardozi embroidery with rose and floral motifs, reflected Bal’s enduring design language. The jacket reportedly took 410 hours to craft, making it a standout tribute to Bal’s painstaking artistry.
Allowing the jacket to be the statement, Johar paired it with a classic black shirt and sharply tailored trousers. His accessories added an extra layer of regality, he wore a ruby-encrusted choker and an ornate statement ring from Tyaani Jewellery that balanced contemporary flair with vintage charm.
Completing the look with his trademark black sunglasses, glossy black shoes, and impeccably styled hair, Karan Johar once again proved why he's one of Indian cinema’s most fashion-forward voices. With this appearance, he not only honoured a late fashion legend but also brought Indian couture to the global spotlight—one stitch, one step, one story at a time.
