Tulsi Gabbard, recently confirmed as the US Director of National Intelligence under President-elect Donald Trump, has long been in the political spotlight. However, her husband,
Abraham Williams, has maintained a relatively low profile despite his strong support for her career.
Williams is a filmmaker known for his work on documentaries, features, and music videos. According to his official website, he aims to capture the “human element” in his stories, ranging from American cities to war zones in the Middle East.
Gabbard and Williams first met in 2012 when he volunteered as a photographer for her campaign for the US House of Representatives. His mother, Anya Anthony, managed Gabbard’s district office in Honolulu, as reported by
The New York Times. Their relationship took off a year and a half later when Williams asked her out at a mutual friend’s birthday party. “It was the first time that we had a chance to kick back, relax and really talk on a personal level,” Gabbard told
The New York Times in 2015.
The couple bonded over their shared love for outdoor activities, especially the ocean. Williams even proposed to Gabbard while surfing, presenting a ring attached to a flotation device covered in gold duct tape. “I have a question for you: Will you marry me?” he asked, according to The New York Times.
They married in 2015 in a traditional Vedic ceremony in Hawaii. Gabbard, who embraced Hinduism in her teenage years following her mother’s conversion, shares the faith with Williams. Their wedding was attended by Ram Madhav, a spokesperson for the RSS and BJP.

Over the years, the couple faced personal challenges, including fertility struggles. Speaking on the 'Citizen McCain' podcast, Gabbard shared that they went through several failed rounds of IVF before deciding to halt treatments in 2020 during her presidential campaign. “As hard as this was for me, it was extremely hard for Abraham to just watch this heartbreak over and over again,” she said.

Despite these struggles, their relationship remains strong. In a 2020 anniversary post on social media, Gabbard wrote, "To my husband Abraham Williams—5 years ago today I walked down the aisle and into your arms. I have never looked back. I love you with all of my heart ❤️ I am endlessly grateful for you—your love, your friendship, your incredible support… I look forward to whatever lies ahead for us—together."
