Eye yoga poses that actually work

In a world filled with screens and endless scrolling, eyes get tired before the day ends. Eye yoga brings a gentle, healing pause that helps the eyes feel light, calm, and focused again. Here’s what we can practise.

canva

Palming for warmth and rest

Rubbing the palms together and gently placing them over closed eyes creates a warm, dark space. This small pause calms the optic nerves and relieves mental clutter.

canva

Eye clock movement

Visualising a big clock and moving the eyes to each hour point—12, 3, 6, 9—stretches the eye muscles in all directions. It feels like a mini stretch for tired eyes.

canva

Blinking rhythm exercise

Blinking intentionally every few seconds for a full minute resets the eye’s moisture levels. This helps when screen time dries the eyes out more than noticed.

canva

Near and far shifting

Focusing on a finger placed close to the nose, then shifting the gaze to something far, trains the eyes to refocus. It’s a tiny vision workout, best done near a window.

canva

Side-to-side glancing

Looking gently from one side to the other, as if watching a tennis match, activates the lateral eye muscles. This supports flexible eye movement and sharper side vision.

Moving the eyes from the top right to the bottom left, and then from top left to bottom right, creates diagonal strength. It’s like teaching the eyes a new path to follow.

canva

Eye squeezing technique

Tightly squeezing the eyes shut for a few seconds and then opening them wide helps relax the muscles around the sockets. It brings a quick burst of alertness too.

canva

Focus tracing with a finger

Following the movement of a finger slowly forming shapes in the air—circles, triangles, infinity loops—encourages precise eye control. Each shape becomes a playful visual trail.

canva

Figure-eight gaze

Imagining an ‘8’ lying on its side and tracing its loop slowly with the eyes builds coordination. This soft, flowing motion improves flexibility without any effort.

canva

Soft gazing at a flame (Trataka)

Staring gently at a candle flame without blinking until the eyes water, then closing the eyes and resting, deepens focus. This ancient method connects breath and sight in a calming way
