KULLU: Six people died and six others were injured when a huge Deodar tree fell on them following a landslide in Manikaran of Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Sunday evening. The tree's branches crashed onto passing vehicles also, but no one inside was hurt.
"Police, fire, and health department officials rushed to the scene, but the victims had already died on the spot,"
Kullu SDM Vikas Shukla told TOI.
Police could identify three of the six deceased: Varshini from Bengaluru, Reena (a local), and Sameer from Nepal.
"We are trying to identify the remaining three victims, including a man from Punjab. All the injured were taken to the nearby govt hospital in Jari village, where their condition is stable," said the SDM.
A Deodar tree can grow up to 40m in height, with a trunk diametre of 2-3m. Over a month ago, Kullu administration had removed street vendors from the spot where the tree fell.
