SALEM: Chief minister M K Stalin would release water from Mettur dam on June 12 for irrigation in the Cauvery delta districts, tourism minister R Rajendran said on Monday.
During his two-day visit to Salem district on June 11 and 12, the chief minister will inaugurate projects worth around Rs 1,400 crore. The CM would participate in govt and party events in the district.
After releasing water from the Mettur dam on June 12, Stalin will attend an event on the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College campus in Salem where he will provide welfare schemes that would benefit around one lakh people.
Preparations are currently under way to erect a pavilion spanning approximately 180,000 square feet on the college ground for the event. The tourism minister inspected work on the pavilion and held discussions with officials regarding security measures and facilities.
The minister was accompanied by district collector R Brindha Devi, Salem corporation commissioner M Elangovan, deputy police commissioner Velmurugan and DMK Salem East district secretary S R Sivalingam.
