Smuggler let off: TI suspended, 2 cops off active duty

RAIPUR: Letting off a marijuana smuggler after his arrest has cost dear to police station in-charge and two sub inspectors of Pratappur. Action was taken on instructions of Surguja IG Himanshu Gupta.
Acting on Surguja IG Himanshu Gupta's instructions, SP in-charge of Surajpur, DR Achala has suspended police station in-charge of Pratappur Narendra Singh and has line attached sub-inspectors Deepak Sahu and Omprakash Kuurre.Sub-inspector Oscar Minj has been given charge of Pratappur police station till further orders.
According to information, Pratappur police had arrested a man, a resident of village Koteya from village Bagda and recovered 3 kg of marijuana. The man was arrested by Pratappur TI Narendra Singh and sub-inspector Deepak Sahu and Omprakash Kurre. The three, however, let off the accused without taking any action or lodging an FIR against him. It was alleged that the three had taken bribe from the accused.
A complaint in this regard reached Surguja IG Himanshu Gupta, who wrote to SP in-charge of Surajpur, DR Achala to probe the complaint and take strict action against the said police officers. During preliminary investigations, the allegations against the three officials were found to be true.
Meanwhile, IG Himanshu Gupta has appointed additional SP Korea Nivedita Pal as inquiry officer of the case.
According to Surajpur additional SP SR Bhaggar, sub-inspector Osccar Minj has been given charge of Pratappur police station till further orders. New posting of Pratappur TI will be made soon, he added.
