BALLARI: Jindal Steel Works (JSW) in Toranagallu made a significant purchase of 35 tonnes of Nandini Mysore Pak from the Raichur, Ballari, Koppal, and Vijayanagara (RBKV) Milk Union, which is a part of the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation.

This purchase, valued at over Rs 1.5 crore, is one of the largest orders received by KMF in recent times. The sweet, a favourite in the state, was supplied in 70,000 packets weighing half a kg each. Additionally, 7,000 such packets were sold to SUCO Bank.

Peerya Naik, the managing director of the union, stated that this purchase highlights a change in JSW's sourcing strategy, as they shifted from obtaining sweets from Mumbai to opting for the state's Nandini brand. This decision demonstrates the quality of KMF products.

The increased demand for KMF's Nandini products can also be attributed to the recent controversy surrounding the alleged use of adulterated ghee in TTD's Laddu Prasad. Jindal's large purchase of Mysuru Pak was intended for distribution among its employees during Deepavali festival.

The RBKV Milk Union of KMF has been experiencing growth recently, with an increase in milk procurement. The union plans to sell the surplus milk collected in Telangana state. A private dairy in Warangal district has been identified as the destination for milk collection, where it will be processed, branded, and delivered to the market. The tender process for these operations has been completed, and the contract is being finalised.

Initially, the RBKV Union aims to supply Telangana with 20,000 litres of milk daily, with plans to expand the market in the future. The union currently procures 2.20 lakh kg of milk daily from the four districts it serves, with Raichur contributing 25,000 litres, Ballari 7,000 litres, Koppal 70,000 litres, and Vijayanagara district providing 1.18 lakh litres. Out of this, 1.6 lakh litres (1.50 lakh litres of milk and 10,000 litres of curd) are distributed to consumers within the union, while 10,000 litres of milk are supplied to Mother's Dairy.

Director Peerya Naik explains that although milk production increased in the union, benefiting farmers, the union is facing losses. To compensate for this, the market is being expanded to other states, he said, adding that the expansion will be easy due to the good reputation of the KMF brand.
